Key People

Mokoro is based on a core group of highly experienced consultants, having been set up in 1982 by a group of people who worked together as ODI Fellows in Botswana in the 1970s. They shared a commitment to sustainable international development and poverty reduction. Twenty-six years on, the Mokoro spirit of collaboration and professionalism is as strong as ever.

A number of the original founding members are still Mokoro consultants and other experts have joined them to form the cadre of Principal Consultants. The company's experience, and that of its consultants, cuts across sectors, issues and disciplines. Mokoro personnel provide generalist as well as specialist advice, having experience at all levels of project and programme cycles. Mokoro consultants provide analytical advice, design and lead evaluations, provide training and run workshops and seminars. Most of Mokoro's consultants work on short-term assignments, but support to governments and organisations is frequently long-term in nature through a series of short inputs over an extended period. We also have a network of Associates, who share Mokoro's approach and have the same commitment to high standards. This enhances our ability to take a broad-based approach to assignments. The diverse skills of our Associates complement the expertise of the core group of Mokoro consultants. We choose our Associates with great care and in addition Mokoro operates a quality support system of peer review to ensure the clarity and quality of Mokoro consultancies. Through this system, teams undertaking consultancies draw on professional support and advice from nominated Prinicipal Consultants of Mokoro.

We also have considerable experience of collaborating with organisations, both in the North and South, that share our values and professional standards. We use our networks to ensure that the work we do is context sensitive and supportive of country ownership of development strategies and programmes.

Our office team based in Headington, Oxford, is highly experienced in project management and plays an important role in our successful management of both large and small assignments.
